McCall Accepts Challenge at Columbia

Former Butler basketball coach Marcus McCall has been named as the new head coach at Columbia.  The job has been open since Chris Hancock resigned the position at the beginning of the summer to take an assistant football job at Huntsville High School.

McCall is a long time middle school coach who will be taking his first head football coaching job.  He worked as an assistant coach last year on the Columbia staff.  “I accepted this job as a challenge,” said McCall, on Al.com. “I believe in the kids and the school and the administration. I’m going to put my best foot forward to get the ship turned around and make this into a successful situation.”

In 11 seasons, the Eagles have never had a winning season.  Hancock was 6-24 over the past three campaigns. Columbia competes in Class 6A Region 8.  The Eagles open the season August 25th at home against Albertville.
