Fyffe Defeats Plainview 43-27 in ALFCA Game of the Week

Fyffe’s Payton Anderson was too much for Plainview.

The Fyffe Red Devil rushing attack, led by junior Payton Anderson, was too much for the Plainview Bears Friday night as the Red Devils overpowered the Bears 43-27.  It was Fyffe’s 20th consecutive victory.

Plainview stopped the Red Devils on the first possession, but the Bears threw an interception.  Anderson scored his first touchdown of the night for Fyffe on a 42 yard scamper.  The PAT made the score 7-0.  After an exchange of punts, Plainview quarterback Brady Dukes threw a pair of completions to Chance Broyles and then took off on a 25 yard run. Dukes then hit Riley Stephens for an 8 yard TD pass.  The extra point went wide but Plainview had tighten the score 7-6.

Moments later, Anderson received the Bear kickoff and exploded for a 92 yard touchdown return.  Brody Dalton’s PAT gave Fyffe a 14-6 lead with 2 minutes left in the first quarter.

The Plainview offense responded with a scoring drive of its own. Running back Clay Cooper made a first down on three runs.  Dukes hit Broyles, Stephens and Cade Willingham for a total of 46 yards before Cooper fell in the end zone on a 2 yard run. The PAT team made the score 14-13.  Fyffe then drove 60 yards and scored again when Anderson powered in from 11 yards out to make the score 21-13.  When the Bear offense got backed up on the next possession, the Red Devils earn a safety when Plainview snapped the ball over the punter’s head and through the end zone to make the count 23-13.

When Plainview punted from the 20 yard line after the safety, Anderson struck again.  The 200 pound junior took the kick and returned it deep in Plainview territory.  Runs by Anderson and Seth Benefield set up Anderson’s fourth touchdown of the night from a yard out. Fyffe led 30-13 with four minutes left in the half.

Plainview’s Dukes completed two passes to set up a field goal attempt that went wide to close out the half at 30-13.

Dukes first pass of the second half was intercepted by Fyffe’s all everything Anderson.  Plainview held defensively but couldn’t get a drive going and punted back to Fyffe midway through the quarter.  The Red Devils ground game got going again.  Silas Hicks capped a 9 play, 61 yard drive with a 4 yard TD plunge to make the score 37-13 with 3;33 left in the third quarter.

After a Plainview punt, Seth Benefield  broke a 54 yard TD run as the quarter expired giving Fyffe a 43-13 advantage. Plainview responded back as Cooper broke 34 yard touchdown run for the Bears. The 2 point conversion failed and the score bumped to 43-19.  Plainview got the ball back and struck quickly as Dukes connected with a 42 yard deep shot to Broyles.  Dukes plunged in from the one yard line and when the Bears made the 2 point conversion, the score stood at 43-27. The Red Devils recovered an onside kick and ran out the clock.

Fyffe steps back into regional play next week vs. the Sand Rock Wildcats.  Plainview takes the week off before challenging Brindlee Mountain on October 13th.
