Class 3A/4A Region Championships Still to be Decided This Week

There are three regions in Class 3A that are utter confusion right now while the other five championships have already been decided.

Class 3A

Region 1- This region might be the wildest of all of the seven classes.  Clarke County (5-1) gave Mobile Christian (4-2) their second region loss in a row last week. Hillcrest Evergreen (5-1) just needs to defeat Excel at home this week to win the region championship. Clarke County only has one loss as well, but that loss was to Hillcrest earlier.  Bayside Academy (3-3) upset T.R. Miller (4-2) Friday night and thrust themselves back into the playoff picture. To add more confusion, Clarke County plays Miller this week in Brewton. A Clarke County win and a Bayside win over Flomaton would put Clarke 2nd and Bayside fourth and T.R. Miller out of the playoffs for the first time since 1983. Unless Mobile Christian loses to Cottage Hill, which could throw fourth place into a three way tie.  Which could make T.R. Miller the third seed because they beat #1 Hillcrest. Got it?

Region 2- Wicksburg (5-1) plays Geneva (4-2) Friday night.  If Wicksburg wins, they are the region champion.  If Geneva wins, there will be a three way tie between those two and the winner of Daleville and Opp. If Opp was to win, Geneva would be the champion because they beat both Wicksburg and Opp. If Daleville wins, it would go deeper into the tie breakers. The loser of Daleville/Opp would have 3 losses and could tie with Slocomb and Providence Christian who could both win this week.  This one is almost as complicated as Region 1.

Region 3- Montgomery Academy is champion (5-0) and Pike County (5-1) is second. It still has to be played out but Southside Selma looks to be third and Prattville Christian probably fourth.

Region 4- Gordo is champion of this region. Oakman plays American Christian this week for second and third. Midfield has wrapped up the fourth seed in Region 4.

Region 5- Defending champion Piedmont wins the region championship and Randolph County takes second. Ohatchee looks to have wrapped up third place. A Weaver win or Walter Wellborn loss puts Weaver in the for fourth spot.

Region 6- Fultondale is the champion. J.B. Pennington has second place and Locust Fork third. Holly Pond is in the drivers seat but if they lose to Vinemont, you could have a three way tie for fourth.

Region 7- Plainview’s 13-3 victory over Sylvania gave them the championship and makes Sylvania second. The winner of this week’s North Sand Mountain vs. Geraldine game will get third and the loser takes the fourth seed.

Region 8- We know the four playoff teams but the order is still up in the air.  West Morgan, Colbert Heights and Lauderdale County all have 5-1 region marks and Colbert County has a 4-2 region record. The loser of Colbert County-Lauderdale County looks to be the fourth place team.  The rest will have to be determined in the next two weeks.

Class 4A

Only two champions have been declared in 4A and the rest of the regions are in total confusion.  There are some big games Friday night that will clarify the path to the playoffs.

Region 1- Andalusia is the winner of this region. When UMS Wright beat Thomasville last Friday, they secured 2nd place and Thomasville took the third seed. W.S. Neal has drivers seat for fourth. Either a Neal win over Escambia County or a Satsuma loss to Thomasville puts them in the playoffs.  Satsuma needs a victory over Thomasville and a Neal loss to get the a playoff berth.

Region 2- A win by Montgomery Catholic (4-1) over Alabama Christian (4-1) will make them the champion of the region at 5-1. If ACA wins, St. James (4-1) becomes champion if they beat Trinity because they beat ACA earlier. A Trinity win over St. James puts them at 4-2 and creates more havoc. If Dale County beats Ashford and Trinity loses, they both end up 3-3.  Since Dale County beat Trinity early in the season, they would get fourth and Trinity would be out.  You will may still need a road map for this one after Friday.

Region 3- Tallassee beat Leeds (5-1) Friday night to put them at 5-1 with their only loss to Munford (6-0).  Munford and Leeds play Friday.  A victory by Munford makes them outright champion, Tallassee (with a win over Elmore County) would be second and Leeds third at 5-2. If Leeds wins and Tallassee wins, there is a three way tie at the top.  Childersburg and Dadeville play Friday with the winner taking fourth.

Region 4- This one is crazy.  Chances are that after Friday night Bibb County, Hale County and Northside will all be tied for 1st with 6-1 records.  It is also likely that Sipsey Valley, West Blocton and Greensboro will be locked for fourth with 3-4 records.  Here we come tie breakers!

Region 5- We know who the four playoff teams are but the order is still very much up in the air.  If Saks (6-0) beats Hokes Bluff (5-1) they are champion. Jacksonville (5-1) would then get second if they beat Cherokee County (4-2). A Cherokee win could create a three way tie for second.  If Hokes Bluff beats Saks and Jacksonville wins, there would be a three way tie at the top. More tie breakers.

Region 6- Fayette County is the region champion.  A Haleyville win at Fayette or a Dora loss to Good Hope puts Haleyville in second. Other wise, Dora gets second. A Dora loss creates major confusion for the other 2 slots.  Cordova and Winfield are still in there as well.

Region 7- Madison Academy, Sardis and Randolph are all in the playoffs at 6-1.  Sardis and Randolph play this week. The likely scenario is that Madison Academy beats DAR.  If Randolph beat Sardis, MA gets first, Randolph second and Sardis third.  If Sardis wins, they get first with MA second and Randolph third.  Westminister Christian and Madison County play Friday night for the fourth seed.

Region 8- Rogers and Wilson are both undefeated at 8-0 and play Friday night for the region championship. West Limestone travels to Deshler and the winner get third and the loser is fourth.
