AHSAA Summer Conference Football School a Success

The AHSAA instituted its Summer Conference Football School last Wednesday and Thursday at the Renaissance Convention Center in Montgomery.  Some of Alabama’s greatest high school coaches spoke over the two day football school, ranging on topics from defense to offense to culture and leadership.

On Thursday morning, the ALFCA Board of Directors met with Executive Director Jack Wood at the Embassy Suites Hotel.  AHSAA Director Steve Savarese visited the meeting, encouraging the board to get the word out to football coaches in our state that we must work at promoting the good things about high school football.  On Thursday afternoon, all head varsity and middle school football coaches met with official Jeff Hilyer and covered the new NFHS football rules for the 2017 season. Of most concern was the rule making physical crack back blocks illegal.

The best part of the convention was the ability of all coaches to fellowship with each other.  Plays were drawn and coverages discussed outside of the meeting rooms in the hallways of the convention center. Friends and staff members went to some of the local restaurants and enjoyed a meal as they talked about their team’s prospects for 2017.  The AHSAA Summer Convention is a great time to take a break and unwind just before the start of practice.
