Brett Mask

Brett Mask knew half way through his high school football career, he wanted to be a coach. And he did just that, following in the footsteps of his Hall of Fame father, Steve.

It’s wonderful to have such a mentor to talk to almost daily, to ask advice, lean on for encouragement, and celebrate wins. But make no mistake, the coaching leadership of the 2025 Lexington Bears was all Brett Mask.

In his first season leading the Golden Bears, Brett stepped into the new job and immediately gave the program a clear identity. The results followed: an 8–4 record and nearly 39 points a game, with a group that got better as the season went on.

As a player, Brett was a tight end who signed with Murray State, won an Ohio Valley Conference championship, then transferred to North Alabama and became a three-year starter on the offensive line. He earned All-Conference recognition as the Lions went to the Division 2 semifinals twice. As a coach, he’s spent two decades in the grind working his way up: coordinator work, coaching wrestling and five seasons as head coach at Colbert County.

After spending three years at Florence where he was offensive coordinator and assistant head coach, Brett was ready when Lexington called him to be their head coach in the spring of 2025. At home, he and his wife Michelle of 18 years have built a family with their sons Rowen and Briggs—another reminder that leadership doesn’t stop when practice ends.
