Brad Abbott
Maplesville
Under Coach Abbott's leadership, the Maplesville Red Devils had an outstanding 2024 season, marking their first trip to the state finals since 2016. The team's offense was formidable, averaging 34.3 points per game.
The season was highlighted by significant victories, including a 21-20 triumph over a strong Autauga Academy team. The Red Devils demonstrated resilience in the playoffs, securing a 21-20 win against a great Sweet Water team and a 28-21 victory over a high scoring Elba squad to reach the state championship game. Although they fell to Wadley in the finals, the team's journey was a testament to their determination and skill.
With over three decades dedicated to Maplesville football—as a player, assistant, and head coach—Coach Abbott's commitment is unwavering. He is a 1987 Red Devil graduate where he played for Hall of Fame coach Jim Hubbert. His tenure includes three 10-win seasons and a 102-53 overall head coaching record. In 2024, he led the Red Devils to a 12-3 record. This was Maplesville’s 29th season of ten wins or more, tied for most in state history, further solidifying the great tradition of Maplesville football in the state.
Coach Abbott's impact extends beyond the field. Former player Matthew Sample reflects, "Coach Abbott has spent his career making boys into men, teaching us to trust in each other, believe in what we are doing, and persevere until the end. That philosophy is something that I will carry with me forever."
