Two new coaches have been appointed to the ALFCA Board of Directors by ALFCA President Terry Curtis. These new members will serve until next January’s convention when the districts will officially vote for board replacements.
Steve Smith of Piedmont will serve District 6 replacing Jay Brown. Smith is entering his 13th season as head coach at Piedmont, where he has built a 3A dynasty. His Bulldogs have been state champions three times since his arrival.
Erik Speakman of Opelika will serve in the place of Norman Dean for District 4. Speakman understands the working of the ALFCA board, having done a tour of duty earlier on the board in one of the assistant slots. Speakman became the head coach at Opelika this spring after years as an assistant at the school.
“We greatly appreciate the time and effort that Norman and Jay have put into their jobs representing their districts,” said ALFCA Executive Director Jack Wood. “Jay has been a part of the board for many years. We wish both of them the best.”
The next meeting of the ALFCA Board of Directors will be Thursday, July 19th during All Star Sports Week at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Montgomery.
