Top High School Coaches Slate for the ALFCA Convention

Four of the state’s finest coaches will speak at the ALFCA Convention in two weeks at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Montgomery.

Chris Metcalf, defensive coordinator at Minor High School and considered one of the best young coaches in the Birmingham area, will speak on “DB Player Development” in the 1:15 PM time slot on Friday afternoon. Also on Friday afternoon, Jonathan Chandler of Opelika will speak on the “Opelika Offense”. Chandler was selected as the ALFCA 6A Assistant Coach of the Year for 2019.

Montgomery Catholic’s Aubrey Blackwell will speak at 2:25 on “Spread Triple Option vs. Pressure Defense.” Blackwell has led Catholic to 30 wins in the past 3 seasons. In the same 2:25 time slot, Rueben Nelson of Ramsey High School will speak on “Power Offense from the Spread”. Nelson took over the Ramsey program as head coach in 2012 after 36 years in which the school did not play football. Over the last four seasons, Ramsey has won 41 games including a 13-2 mark as 6A State Champions.

The ALFCA Convention begins Thursday, January 23rd at 5:30 PM.
