The Thompson Warriors are the #3 ranked high school football team in the country according to High School Football America. The website had ranked teams for the last nine years. The Warriors are the two time defending 7A state champions in Alabama. They finished last season ranked #2 in the High School Football America rankings. Mater Dei (California) is ranked #1 going into the season and Westlake (Texas) is the #2 team to begin the 2021 season. Last year's HSFA national champ, IMG Academy (Florida) is #5 in this year's preseason rankings.
Also ranked from Alabama is Hoover (#36) who was 11-2 last season and Hewitt Trussville (#41) who finished the season with a record of 9-3. All three schools will play in the same 7A region this season in the Birmingham area.
In the next HSFA 100, Alabama has three other ranked teams. Pinson Valley (#108) was 8-2 last season, St. Paul's (#126) was 15-0 last year and won the 5A State Championship, and Auburn (#143) was 11-2 and finished as 7A runner up. The Oxford Yellow Jackets and the Central Phenix City Red Devils were on the honorable mention list.
