One month after Briarwood Christian’s legendary coach Fred Yancey retired, the Lions elevated Matthew Forester to the head job. Forester had served as defensive coordinator for eight years and been at the school for 13.
An All-State linebacker at Briarwood in the 1990s, Forester’s roots in the program run deep. “Briarwood football is not about one person getting the accomplishments,” Forester said. “It’s about the team accomplishing something together. Briarwood is about giving God the glory.”
Mike Bramblett is the new coach at Brookwood High School. Bramblett arrives after spending the past four years as the assistant head coach/defensive coordinator at Hillcrest. He replaces Tracy Dunn, who led the Panthers for four seasons. “Understanding the situation they have been in the last couple of years, because in the past I have been in that situation too and we’ve learned how to work through tough situations and to make things better,” Bramblett said. “They need somebody that will encourage them and can help take them where they want to go and I hope and pray that is what we can do so that is where we are.” Brookwood has had one winning season in the last 27 years, it coming in 1999.
Tuscaloosa County High School promoted defensive coordinator Jay Todd to the head coaching position. Todd will attempt to turn around the Wildcats who have not had a winning season since 2014. St. Clair County selected Brooks Damper to replace Matt Glover
