Former Alabama High School Coach Chip Lindsey Named Head Coach of the Troy Trojans

When Troy started looking for a new head coach, they realized that they only had to look back at some of their great assistant coaches of the past to get a candidate list.  When they did, there was one name that topped that list.

Former Troy quarterbacks coach Chip Lindsey was named as the head coach at Troy University on Thursday. Lindsey, 44, comes back to Alabama after a brief stint as the offensive coordinator for Les Miles at Kansas.

Lindsey becomes the fifth former Alabama high school coach to head up one of the state’s college jobs, joining Bill Clark at UAB, John Grass at Jacksonville State, Reggie Ruffin at Miles, Willie Slater at Tuskegee, and Faulkner’s Tommy Wasden.

“Our family is beyond excited to come back home to the state of Alabama and Troy as we continue to build on the foundation that has been laid for this program,” Lindsey said. “I have seen firsthand the passion of Trojan Nation and the student-athletes that represent it. I cannot wait to meet our team and get working on strengthening our position among the premier Group of Five programs.”

Lindsey served as head coach at Colbert Heights in 2005 and 2006 before coming the offensive coordinator at Hoover. He spent two seasons at Lassiter High School (Ga) before coming to Troy as quarterbacks coach in 2010. He left Troy to take the head coaching position at Spain Park High School in 2011 and 2012. When Gus Malzahn came to Auburn in 2013, Lindsey joined him as an offensive analyst for the Tigers 2013 SEC championship season.

Lindsey left Auburn to be the offensive coordinator at Southern Miss in 2014 and 2015. He was hired as the OC at Arizona State for one season before returning to Auburn where he served as the offensive coordinator the last two years.

Lindsey also served as an assistant football coach at six other high schools in the state of Alabama. He played football and graduated from Bob Jones High School before going to play for Bobby Wallace at the University of North Alabama.
