Clark, Malzahn Head Up Day 2 of ALFCA Convention

UAB’s Bill Clark and Auburn Coach Gus Malzahn highlight the second day of speakers at this year’s ALFCA Convention. The convention is scheduled for January 24th-26th at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Montgomery.

Clark has led a remarkable turn around for a program that disbanded after the 2014 season.  After a two-season hiatus, in 2017 the team returned to the gridiron and went on to become one of the greatest college football comeback stories in recent history.

This season, the UAB Blazers finished 11-3; captured their first C-USA championship, defeating Middle Tennessee State, and first division title; made their first back-to-back bowl trips; and won their first bowl game. Clark, in addition to winning the prestigious Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year award, was also named the 2018 Sporting News Coach of the Year.

Before taking the job at UAB, Clark served as head coach at Jacksonville State and defensive coordinator at South Alabama.  He was a highly successful coach at Prattville High School and one of the original founders of the Alabama Football Coaches Association.

Gus Malzahn has become a fixture at the ALFCA Convention, speaking every year since returning as Tigers head coach in 2013.  This year he will bring members of his defensive staff to speak as well.
