Scott Basden

In Muscle Shoals, Friday nights are different these days. Every week the Trojan fans will pack the stadium expecting to win, but that wasn’t always the case. But since Scott Basden arrived in 2008, the standard for Muscle Shoals football has taken a huge leap forward.

In 2025, Muscle Shoals went 12–1, and allowed just 9.3 points per game. That defensive number tells a lot about this team. The Trojans gave up more than 15 points only once and made their second 6A semifinal appearance in four years. Coach Basden has led Muscle Shoals to 17 straight playoff trips and has a record of 170 wins 50 losses in 18 seasons at the school.

Muscle Shoals is not the first successful coaching tenure for Coach Basden. His head coaching journey started in North Alabama, at tiny Parrish High and he arrived at Cordova High School in 2004 for a memorable four year stint. His last season there the Blue Devils won the 3A State Championship, with a perfect 15-0 season.

Muscle Shoals Principal Dustin Davis said it in a way only a former player can: “Outside of my own family, no one has shaped my life more than Coach Basden.” He called him tough, disciplined, loyal—“and above all, a winner.”

Retired superintendent Brian Lindsey echoed the same theme.. “Coach Basden has done what so many coaches dream of doing- he’s made a difference.”

Scott and his wife Millie of 30 years have three children - Walker, Bentley and Bryant.

That’s a legacy you can’t measure with a final score. But in 2025, Muscle Shoals gave the fans plenty of those good final scores as well.
