North-South All Stars Kick Off Friday

The annual AHSAA North-South All Star football game will kick off Friday, December 18th at 7:00 PM at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile. The facility is the new University of South Alabama stadium located on the USA campus.

The North-South Classic got its start in Tuscaloosa in 1948. It was played yearly through 1984. It was discontinued from 1985-1996 and brought back in 1997 as part of the AHSAA Summer Conference and AHSADCA All-Star Sports Week. It was played at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery from 1997-2004, then moved to Troy University for two years in 2004 and 2005. The classic moved to Alabama A&M University from 2007-2010 and then returned to Montgomery in 2011. The game is run by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association.

This is the game's second move to December. North South was played in December in Troy in 2004 and 2005 and juniors played in the game rather than seniors.

The players reported to Mobile on Wednesday. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday and will be televised live by WTOM TV over the AHSAA TV Network and will be live-streamed over the NFHS Network. The AHSAA Radio Network is also broadcasting the game live over its statewide radio network.

Head coach of the South squad is Ernest Hill of McGill Toolen and Jeff Smith of Walter Wellborn will head up the North team.
